Sourdough Starter

With our new dietary restrictions I have researched and found sourdough to be the best if one absolutely has to have bread. So I set out to learn how to make this myself. I have always been interested in sourdough but it’s really complicated to understand. So through trial and error this seems to work for now.

Mix flour 50/50 - bread flour & wheat flour

1/2 c flour

1/3 c water


Repeat following steps for a week:

Morning 

3 Tbsp starter (discard rest)

1/2 c flour

1/3 c water


Evening

2 Tbsp flour

1 1/2 Tbsp water


We found that this took longer than 7 days...more like 12 days! Even then when we did the float test it still didn’t look right. But we forged ahead and made our first loaf of bread OMG!
